Day 39 - Killington

Started at 8:00 at Snowdon in a very light rain, but by 9:30 or so it had stopped.  Hero snow day.  Started on my Rossignol Avenger 76 Ti’s but quickly changed to Atomic D2 Race GS.  Fairly crowded, but not as bad as I was expecting.

Day 38 - Killington

Afternoon skiing during a holiday means scrapey conditions and tons of herbs.  I been sick so today was my first ski day since Tuesday.  I skied the Rossignol Avenger 76 Ti’s.  It took a few runs, but I finally got things going and was able to hack together turns down the icy middle of everything I skied.

Day 37 - Killington

Out at 8:00, but Snowdon Quad didn’t start on time for the second day in a row… nothing pisses me off more than inept operations.  Skied one pair of my new Atomic D2 GS’s – very well behaved.  Skied mainly on Skye Peak and in the Canyon again.  Conditions were ok, but more rain in the forecast for tonight followed immediately by cold temperatures…  Tell me if you’ve heard this story before… … …

Day 36 - Killington

Out first thing with Tom and skied the new Rossignol Avenger 76 Ti’s.  We mainly skied Skye Peak and the Canyon.  Skylark and Superstar were in good shape; and East Fall had been groomed but was a herbatorium by the time we got to it. Holiday week is blacked out so it didn't start getting crowded until after 10:00.

Day 35 - Killington

Christmas morning, so I was a little late getting out on the hill.  The Canyon opened up today with East Fall and Cascade.  Both had tons of snow, but Cascade was better.  Skied the K2 Apache Xplorers yet again.

Day 34 - Pico

Finally skied something else this year, even if it was just Pico. Clear, cold, and still. Skied virtually alone on the upper mountain. Only 49er was open and the guns on the lower half kept everyone away. Skied the K2 Apache Xplorers again – ripped the bases up pretty good.

Day 33 - Killington

Warmer this morning, rain started at noon.  Beautiful soft snow on Superstar, Skylark, and on Downdraft Headwall.  Skied the K2 Apache Xplorers again.  Still waiting to ski all the new stuff.  I’m going to take a couple of days off and rest my left knee.

Day 32 - Killington

Blah, blah, blah… I’m sick of skiing the same 10 slopes. God please change tomorrow’s rain storm to snow.

Day 31 - Killington

Clear and windy with increasing clouds and temperature. They opened lower Superstar this morning so I skied the K2 Apache Xplorers today. Lower Superstar wasn’t as good as I was expecting, but still good enough that I made like seven runs on it. They started to blow snow on Lower East Fall today at noon. Fairly crowded for a Monday, but other than that an OK day.

Day 30 - Killington

Clear, cold and still this morning, so they’re doing some wonderful snowmaking on Skye Peak. Skied the first hour with Tom, then got to run some GS with the KSC Masters group on Highline. Started out pretty rough, but by the time we quit I felt a little better. I finally got the skis to bite in the turn by driving forward and inside really hard with my hips.

Day 29 - Killington

Lots of snowmaking and lots of people.  Parked in the Vale and started at Ramshead.  Skied with Susan and Jay most of my morning. Hit all the major lifts that were open.

Day 28 - Killington

Skied a couple of hours in the rain. Parked at Snowdon, then stuck to the gondola. Used the K2 Apache Xplorers again. PSIA groups still clogging up the open terrain.

Day 27 - Killington

This morning started off cloudy with the top of the mountain fogged in, but a slow warming and clearing trend made for an overall nice morning. Rode K-1 first thing and made a few quick runs up in the North Ridge area. Since Rime and Upper East Fall were groomed overnight and I was the first one down the snow up there was very nice.  I moved on to Skye Peak for some runs on a newly groomed Skylark/Bittersweet and a few on Upper Superstar under the guns. Then after coffee in KBL, I hit Snowdon. Highline ‘opened’ today, but I didn’t get to ski it. Today was the first Ski Bum Race and it didn’t open before I left. Upper Bunny was good; it opened at noon after KMS finished. Skied the K2 Apache Xplorer’s today. No Ski Tracks today – it just quit working after coffee?

Day 26 - Killington

Another beautiful day. Sitting in the full sun, the car thermometer read 60° at 12:30PM - actual air temperature was more like upper thirties. Relatively crowded again today - tons of PSIA groups on the hill. Got to ski some new stuff today - Superstar and Snowshed. GS-12's again today. Despite the warming temperatures lots of snowmaking going on - Upper Chute, Highline (shutdown at 11:00), Upper Downdraft, High Traverse, Upper Double Dipper, Upper Superstar, here and there on Skylark, and full bore on Upper Bittersweet.  Took a fall in the soft wet stuff on Superstar.

Day 25 - Killington

Beautiful morning.  Out early with Tom.  Skied North Ridge first via K-1, then on to Snowdon taking a quick coffee break and finishing with a few on Skye Peak. It was nice to ski something new today.  Skylark was bumped nicely.

Day 24 - Killington

Clear and colder this morning.  Far fewer people on the hill today. I think opening Skye Peak helped pull skiers off Snowdon and North Ridge.  Skied my GS-12’s again today.
